Riding the wave is becoming popular to many Filipinos.  In fact, there are many rising surfing points in the Philippines. From the Siargo as the the surfing capital of the Philippines to Baler, Aurora, Catanduanes, Zambales and even Ilocos. Do not also miss out on the famous San Juan La Union, the nearest surfing destination to my beloved Baguio City - just a 2-hour drive from Baguio or about 8 km. from Manila. As this is a very interesting and self-fulfilling water sport, why not bring your friends in San Juan! The 9 of us rented a van for PhP 3,500 going to San Juan, not bad because we had a lot of side trips. Checking in at San Juan Surf School  established in 2003 by Filipino-Australian surfer Luke Landrigan, was a good choice - decent and affordable.  For a maximum of 4 ( or even 5) per room, you'll get a good sleep at a price of PhP 2,400 (check their page for updated rates at  www.sanjuansurfschool.ph ).     More and more Filipinos are now learning and practicing investment as opposed to our culture of saving money in the bank, letting it sleep there. Recently, I started to appreciate investments. Some would invest for their future, some for their retirement and others for their family when in case something happens to them. Annually, the School of Information Technology holds its SIT Day, a break from the daily routine of a student - studying.  This is one of the "fun-learning" events in University of Baguio in which students and faculty alike can savor unlimited fun for a day.

AFTER EARTH  review After Earth is a sci-fi movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan and it stars Will Smith (Cypher) and his son Jaden (Kitai). It is flooded with criticisms for being dull and very predictable and I agree  that its plot is indeed foreseeable. In the first part of the movie, you can already guess the plot without reading reviews or watching trailers - "an afraid boy trying to prove himself, caught in an unexpected challenge but in the end, he triumphs".    Read my review...

Sixth Stop: CARAMOAN ISLANDS From Donsol, we went to Caramoan Islands.  One of the longest trip I ever had (I'll tell you why in a moment).  We called up the van we hired from Legazpi to Donsol to bring us back to Daraga with the same price.  He brought another van with a different seat orientation which made me a bit sick especially that Donsol to Daraga is "bitukang-manok" or zig zag. We were able to deal PhP 1,200.00 for 12 persons going back to Daraga vs PhP 20.00 tricycle per head plus 100.00 van per head.  

Fifth Stop: DONSOL, SORSOGON As a continuation of the SIT Amazing Race in Bicol, our group set off to Donsol for the Whale shark Interaction.   In the months of November through May (or even June), they say whale sharks converge in the Donsol bay to feed on the phytoplanktons and other small organisms.  With just a simple snorkeling equipment, you get to enjoy swimming with these gigantic friendly creatures.

Our school or college conducts its outing annually to break away from the hectic schedule and requirements of the school.  This year, the group chose Camarines Sur as our destination. Knowing there are a lot of nearby towns that might interest the group, I volunteered to do an itinerary rather than booking a tour package which might cost more than our budget.
