My idea of an SIT Day for 2013

Annually, the School of Information Technology holds its SIT Day, a break from the daily routine of a student - studying.  This is one of the "fun-learning" events in University of Baguio in which students and faculty alike can savor unlimited fun for a day.

Every year, the SIT office assigns an overall coordinator to plan and oversee this activity. During our time (Mikai, Berns, Cherrie, and myself just to mention a few), energy and idea were soaring. We organize a committee to plan this activity. We usually have a session for a brainstorming for this activity. After finalizing the activities, we present this to the Program Chairs and the Dean. The plan undergoes a presentation, scrutiny, and improvements before a well-planned activity is born.

We also had other similar activities such as concert-for-a-cause and battle of the technocrats.  How I wish the new and young instructors can also produce one.

Gone are the days of SIT Nights where students get together in a function room of a hotel. This is a taxing and unsafe activity.

Since our creativity and energy are a little off this year (hopefully just hibernating), we did not join the committee. On the other hand, I am very confident with the new set of officers and the faculty-in-charge of this year's activity.

Last year, I suggested "KOSUPURE" - a cosplay competition to highlight the event and it was a success. SIT is a real mine of talents.

{pictures to follow}

As I am reminiscing, I was able to weave ideas for this year's SIT Day, I would like to see the following events be included in the program:

1. Ivideokemoko

   -I would like this event to be opened to all SIT students but the contestants should be semi-screened to trim down the number of contestants. The mechanics - 3 judges will be sitting in front of the stage facing a big videoke-looking box where the contestant will be singing. A song projected to the two big screens at the sides of the stage can be enjoyed by the viewers. The singer will be a mystery and the judges will stand up if they think that the singer should go for the next round without an idea who is inside the box.  It is an adaptation of "The Voice blind auditions" as I am a fan of singing contests. The finalists will be drawing a number that will correspond to their final song. The judges will give them score and decide who is the best videoke singer.

2. Hollywood Dress-up

   -Since there are only few cosplayers in SIT, I would like to bring out the students' creativity and confidence by opening a similar activity. Instead of a cosplay, students can join and dress up like any of the top grossing Hollywood movies. Hollywood just to make it more specific. They can dress up like Ironman, Edward Cullen, Harry Potter, a Hobbit, Legolas, Avatar, Hunger Games, Hansel and Gretel, Huntsman, or even Lorax or Puss in boots. Flare it up kids!

I also hope the officers will get a pool of people who will be distributed among the audience and let them lead a a simple dance while 3 instructors spot the best 3 performances among the audience for a P500.00 peso bill! It would be a huge student participation. The music should be a series of groovy or mashy hits - studio-like!
