Hong Kong First Timers
Day 1-May 29, 2015: Clarkfield Pampanga to Hong Kong
We woke up 2:00 AM to prepare because we instructed the receptionist last night to arrange a taxi for us at 3:30 AM. From my researches, you should be 3-4 hours earlier than your flight to give way for the long queue in the immigration interview. However, when we arrived at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, the guard told us that check in starts @ 4:30 AM. That is 1:30 hours waste of time.
Quick tip:
Pay the travel tax PhP 1,620.00 before checking in so they can give your boarding pass right away. After which, go to immigration & pay PhP 600.00 for terminal and security fee and fill up the form before your short interview.
We boarded 10 mins earlier than our scheduled flight. Yippee!
Route:
Expenses:
Bus = 306.00
Taxi = 350.00
Travel tax = 1620.00
Terminal fee = 500.00
Security fee = 100.00
Hongkong International Airport:
Their airport is a big wow! Very clean, rich signage and very organized. Even if it is our first time to travel abroad, you won't get lost in this big airport.
We rode a bus to transfer us to arrival area. We went to immigration for a document check. They will issue a small piece of paper. Do not loose it until your return.
After immigration , we exited arrival A. We bought an octopus card at HK$150 with a stored value of $100. My friend told us we don't need it but we still bought one for each of us to experience HK transpo system. This paid off because we used it up until value is -7.20. In case you did not use the whole $100.00, you can still sell it back upon return.
You can also buy a SIM card at the airport which costs HKS180.00 with an 8-day unlimited 4G access. We opted not to and use whatever available access point we find like 7-11, and yes!, internet access points are almost everywhere; but it comes handy if you have your own 4G access.
Disney Land
There are several ways to get to Disney but we opted to ride a bus to Tung Chung then use the MTR to Disneyland because according to a friend, this is the shortest and quickest route we can take.
To go to Tung Chung, ride an S1 Bus (I really forgot to take a picture of the S1 Bus), a two decked bus and orange in color. Just ask any airport staff, they will tell you where the bus station is. Facing the exit of the Arrival, S1 are at the left, so you have to cross a short pedestrian lane. If there are no S1 buses, just line up and wait for it because they arrive at a certain interval. Inside the bus is an LED message board overhead which tells you where you are. Use your octopus card to pay the fare of $3.5.
At Tung Chung, just follow the signage going to MTR Station. Swipe your octopus card to
enter station. Ride the train going to Sunny Bay station. Always check the signages before
boarding. Your card will be deducted $13.30.
Quick tip:
Always look the arrows overhead, they tell you where the trains are headed and to what station, but then again, you can always ask someone for directions(although most non-HK'ers like the people from mainland do not speak English).
At Sunny Bay, go to the other line and board the train going to Disneyland Resort. The line is 90 degrees from Tung Chung line. You would know your boarding the right train because the train is also themed. Windows are the shape of Mickey. Statues of Disney characters are also everywhere.
Upon exit from the train, climb up the stairs and you'll see the exit of the station. You will be greeted by a large welcome Hong Kong Disneyland Resort arc.
Quick Tip
If you bought your tickets online or were given an e-ticket as a token, claim your ticket at the Guests Area or Customer Service by showing your print out. Food and drinks inside the resort are overly priced so make a way to pack foods and drinks inside your bag without the guards noticing it, hehehe. Otherwise you have to leave them all at the gates. You may want to drink from the water fountains, someone told me water in HK undergoes a good treatment and is potable. Bottled water and cola are $25 each inside the park.
Good rides and shows for kids and the kids-at-heart
1. Mystic Manor
2. Lion King show
3. Its a small world
4. 4D show
5. Jungle River Cruise
At 7:45 PM, there was a light show parade and I tell you, it was a good show.
The daily fireworks at Sleeping Beauty castle starts at 9:00 PM.
